Angelo Lumelli was born in 1943 into a family of Piedmont peasants. He emigrated to Germany to study the language of philosophers; he worked as a teacher, served as mayor, and founded and agricultural cooperative. In 2020 he published Le poesie (Poems, Edizioni del Verri), a re-writing of the previously published: Cosa bella cosa (Thing Beautiful Thing, Guanda, 1977), awarded the Viareggio Prize in 1978; Trattatello incostante ( Variable Treatise, Savelli, 1980); Bambina teoria (Child Theory, Corpo 10, 1990); Seelenboulevard (Niebo, 1999); Per non essere l’acqua che amo (Not Being the Water I Love, La vita felice, 2008). He also published: La sposa vestita (The Dressed Bride, Arcipelago, 2006); Bianco è l’istante ( White Is the Moment, Edizioni del Verri, 2015); Verso Hölderlin e Trakl (Toward Hölderlin and Trakl, La Finestra Editrice, 2017). He translated Novalis’ Hymnen an die Nacht (Hymns to the Night, Guanda, 1977); Peter Rosei’s Wer war Edgar Allan? ( Who was Edgar Allan? Feltrinelli, 1980); and Friedrich Torberg’s Der Schüler Gerber (The Schoolboy Gerber, Zandonai, 2013).
